Aare Gorge - roaring water features

 

The Aare Gorge lies between the villages of Meiringen and Innertkirchen in the Haslital Berner Oberland and is about 1km from our Hotel Restaurant Urweider. It is 1.4 kilometres long and up to 200 metres deep. For over a hundred years it has been easy to walk on safe footbridges and through tunnels. This hike is an experience of nature of a very special kind. From the east exit your guests walk comfortably along the Aare in 20 minutes to the Restaurant Hotel URWEIDER. Or come to you on board.

 

The main entrance to the gorge is 1 km east of the village of Meiringen. Sufficient bus parking is available on both sides.

 

Thrills at the Handeck

 

The Gelmerbahn, the steepest funicular in Europe with a gradient of 106%, takes you to the Gelmersee (1,850 m.a.s.l.), in the midst of a magnificent mountain world. Valley hike from the mountain station to Chüenzetennlen approx. 45 minutes or return journey with the Gelmer cable car.

The Handeck bridge is right next door.

70 metres above the gorge of the Handeck Falls, the rope suspension bridge offers a spectacular view of the

Waterfall. Distance from Hotel Restaurant Urweider approx. 15min by car.

 

Visit in the power station Oberhasli KWO

 

Visit the KWO power stations Oberhasli in the Grimsel and Susten area - marvel at a marvel of technology in the midst of a powerful nature. Immerse yourself in this world of contrasts.

Climb down into the underworld of tunnels, shafts, turbines and generators. Feel the vibration of the water under your feet. Explore the inner workings of a dam. In this hidden world there is no day or night, neither summer nor winter.

Boat trip on Lake Brienz

 

A boat trip on Lake Brienz will turn your guests' day into an unforgettable experience.

You take your guests to Interlaken Ost and bring them comfortably back on board in Brienz. From Brienz to Innertkirchen to the Hotel Restaurant URWEIDER it only takes 20 minutes. After lunch an impressive trip over the Alpine passes (you can also reverse the tour).

The starting point is the cable car to the Reichenbach Falls in Meiringen. Visit the impressive Reichenbach Falls and the legendary battlefield of Sherlock Holmes. In just a few minutes on foot you will reach the Monstertrotti issuing point, which will take you back to Meiringen. Afterwards you can hike through the Aare Gorge to Innertkirchen and enjoy a cosy meal in the Hotel Restaurant Urweider. Ideal for groups, clubs and companies.
